Red Wine Hot Chocolate


  • 1½ cups red wine
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar
  • pinch salt
  • splash of milk to taste
  • whipped cream, (optional)
  • berry or plum powder, (optional)
  • grated chocolate

Warm yourself up in this changeable weather with our rich hot chocolate with fruity red wine flavours. Serves 2

  1. Add the red wine, dark chocolate, sugar and salt to a saucepan and warm over a medium heat, whisking constantly until the chocolate has melted
  2. Remove from the heat and add a splash of milk to taste, stirring to combine. We like to use minimal milk to heighten the red wine flavours and also avoid a curdled consistency
  3. Top with whipped cream if using and sprinkle with fruit powder (we used raspberry) and grated chocolate
  4. Tip: Alternatively, add all ingredients to a slow cooker and cook on medium heat for an hour, stirring occasionally
