Take comfort with a mighty red
Fancy a really good red but not sure what it goes with? We've picked out a few of our favourite red wines along with some food matching suggestions that balance well on the palate.
Rua Pinot Noir
A charming Central Otago Pinot Noir, with juicy red berry fruit and lifted floral aromas. In the mouth it's layered with sweet, ripe red berries, underpinned with a subtle, savoury character. Pair with Peking Duck, bacon-wrapped mushrooms and grilled salmon; delicious with brie, Gruyere and grapes too.
Rockburn Pinot Noir
A fine example of Rockburn's elegance and balance, this Pinot Noir has an expressive bouquet leading to a palate of red and black cherry, rich mocha and supple, silky tannins. Beautiful paired with seared tuna or roast pork dishes; try it with Asian flavours too.
Matawhero Merlot
Earthy undertones complement this dark crimson, smooth fruit-driven Merlot, with aromas of blackcurrant and leather and flavours of wild berry and plum. This is a hearty wine that can take something beefy - like a roast ribeye, for example, or a juicy beef and blue cheese burger.
Brookfields Back Block Syrah
This Syrah, with plum, blackcurrant and spice notes, is very food-friendly with a bountiful mid-palate supported by well-integrated oak. Very much a comfort wine, this is great with earthy roasted vegetables, warm winter dinners and chocolate. Lots of chocolate. (Sharing optional.)
