The essential kit you need for all your at-home cocktail-making needs...
Mixing cocktails calls for the right accessories. Here are the six basics you need in your home bar kit (and a few of our staple cocktail spirits below)...
1. SHAKER
For blending, aerating and chilling (with the addition of ice) cocktails quickly before serving. The three main styles are the Boston (a two-piece metal and glass shaker), the French (a two-piece metal shaker) and the cobbler (a three-piece metal shaker with a strainer and lid).
2. STRAINER
Used when pouring cocktails into the glass to remove ice and other solids.
3. JIGGER
An hourglass-shaped stainless steel device for measuring ingredients.
4. MIXING GLASS
Handy for easy muddling and stirring of ingredients before decanting them into your serving glass.
5. BAR SPOON
Has a long handle that allows you to reach to the base of tall pitchers. The twisted handle assists stirring.
6. MUDDLER
Essentially a pestle, gently press down and twist to crush ice, herbs, fruit, sugar and other solids. It may be a simple bat design or have teeth for extracting juice and oils from fruit (don’t use this variety with herbs, or you’ll shred them).
BRASS-TOPPED BAR
Only joking, but it would be nice wouldn't it?!
