  • handful of basil leaves
  • 100ml guava juice
  • 50ml tequila
  • 30ml Cointreau
  • fresh lime juice, to taste
  • soda water, to top (optional)
  • ice

This cocktail screams hot Kiwi Christmas with tropical flavours of guava, orange and tequila. Serves 1

  1. To make a basil and salt rim, blitz a few basil leaves with some salt until just combined. Tip onto a plate. Dip rim of a short glass into a plate of lime juice and then into the basil salt
  2. Muddle a bunch of basil leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add ice and the rest of the ingredients (minus the soda water) and shake well
  3. Strain into the rimmed, ice-filled short glass. Top with a little soda water to dilute if desired
