Grapefruit and Ginger Gin Spritz

Ingredients

  • 45ml grapefruit gin (Whitley Neill/Malfy Rosa)
  • Fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 medium-sized grapefruit
  • 150ml sparkling rosé
With its tangy grapefruit and ginger overtones, this spritz is the perfect opener to a great evening. The real secret to this summer drink is in the rim, however, so don’t skimp on the grapefruit and ginger zest in the sugar – it really makes a difference.
  1. Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Add gin, 2 thin slices of ginger and the juice of 1 1/2 grapefruit. Seal and shake vigorously
  3. Pour sugar onto a plate, and grate a little more of the ginger and grapefruit zest into the sugar
  4. Dampen the rim of a footed highball or tulip glass and invert onto the sugar, grapefruit zest and ginger mix to create a rim
  5. Strain grapefruit mix into glass. Top up with rosé sparkling wine
  6. Serve with a slice of grapefruit and a slice of ginger
